Day-by-Day Itinerary — 2 Nights 3 Days Chitrakoot Prayagraj Tour Package

2 Nights / 3 Days · Chitrakoot · Timings adjustable to your arrival

Day 1

Arrival in Chitrakoot — Kamadgiri Parikrama & Ram Ghat Aarti

Arrive at Chitrakoot by road or from Chitrakoot Dham (Karwi) Railway Station. Meet your guide and check in to hotel. After freshen-up, proceed directly for the Kamadgiri Parikrama — a sacred 5 km barefoot circumambulation of the Kamadgiri hill, believed to be Lord Ram himself in the form of a mountain. Pilgrims walk the paved path through temple-lined forests chanting Ram Naam, and the parikrama is said to fulfill all sincere wishes (Kama = desires fulfilled, Giri = hill). Visit the key shrines along the parikrama path: Bharat Milap Mandir (where Bharat pleaded with Ram to return), Matangi Devi Temple, and Kamadgiri Temple at the start of the circuit. Evening: Ram Ghat on the Mandakini River — the same ghat where Sita is believed to have bathed daily during the exile. Attend the gentle yet deeply moving Aarti as oil lamps drift downstream and priests offer prayers in the cool evening air. Dinner and overnight in Chitrakoot.
Day 2

Chitrakoot Deep Darshan — Gupt Godavari, Hanuman Dhara & Janaki Kund → Drive to Prayagraj

Rise early for a holy dip in the Mandakini River at Ram Ghat at sunrise — the most auspicious act for a Chitrakoot pilgrim. After breakfast, complete the deeper Chitrakoot sacred circuit: Gupt Godavari Caves — twin caves where Lord Ram held his royal durbar in exile and where the Godavari River flows underground through the inner cave (wade through ankle-deep water into the cave for a unique spiritual experience); Janaki Kund — the serene ghat on the Mandakini where Sita bathed daily, marked by a small temple; Hanuman Dhara — reached by climbing 360 steps up the hillside, this natural spring is believed to have appeared at Hanuman's request to cool his burns after setting Lanka ablaze — it flows continuously to this day; Sati Anusuiya Ashram — where the great sage Atri and his wife Anusuiya blessed Sita with divine gifts of immortal sindoor, akshaya vat, and eternal youth. Post-lunch, check out and drive to Prayagraj (approx. 130 km, 3 hrs). Arrive by late afternoon. Check in to hotel. Evening: sunset boat ride at Triveni Sangam — the sacred confluence of Ganga and Yamuna (and invisible Saraswati) in the golden hour light. Overnight in Prayagraj.
Day 3

Prayagraj — Sangam Snan, Akshaya Vat, Anand Bhawan & Departure

Wake before dawn for the most sacred ritual at Prayagraj — Sangam Snan at the Triveni Confluence. Bathing at the meeting of the Ganga, Yamuna, and invisible Saraswati at sunrise is considered among the most meritorious acts in all of Hinduism, believed to cleanse the accumulated karma of multiple lifetimes. After the snan, visit the Allahabad Fort (built by Emperor Akbar in 1583 CE) to see the Akshaya Vat — the immortal banyan tree enclosed within the fort walls, revered since the time of Yudhishthira and mentioned in the Mahabharata. Also visit Saraswati Koop (the sacred well of Saraswati) and the underground Patalpuri Temple. Next: Bade Hanuman Ji — the extraordinary reclining Hanuman idol that gets submerged in Ganga floodwaters each monsoon and re-emerges, drawing massive devotion across India. If time allows, visit Anand Bhawan — the ancestral home of the Nehru-Gandhi family, now a national museum. Post-lunch, transfer to Prayagraj Junction / Civil Lines Bus Stand / Bamrauli Airport for your onward journey. Tour concludes with divine blessings from both Chitrakoot and Prayagraj.

Frequently Asked Questions — 2 Nights 3 Days Chitrakoot Prayagraj Tour Package

What is the distance between Chitrakoot and Prayagraj? How long is the drive?

Chitrakoot is approximately 130 km from Prayagraj, and the drive takes around 2.5–3 hours on NH35. The road passes through the scenic Vindhya plains and is generally in good condition. We schedule the drive post-lunch on Day 2 so you have a full morning for Chitrakoot darshan and arrive in Prayagraj in time for the Sangam sunset boat ride.

Is the Kamadgiri Parikrama suitable for senior citizens?

The Kamadgiri Parikrama is a 5 km paved path that most devotees walk barefoot. It is relatively flat with a few gentle inclines and takes approximately 1.5–2 hours at a leisurely pace. Senior citizens generally complete it comfortably. For those unable to walk, we can arrange a palanquin (doli) or electric rickshaw for portions of the route. The path is shaded by trees and has regular resting points with shops selling prasad.

What is the best time to visit Chitrakoot and Prayagraj?

October to March is ideal — pleasant weather (12–25°C), major festivals like Ram Navami at Chitrakoot (March–April), Deepotsav at Ayodhya nearby (November), and the Magh Mela or Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj (January–February). Monsoon (July–September) is spiritually vibrant with lush green hills at Chitrakoot but flooding at Prayagraj Sangam — Bade Hanuman Ji submerges during this time. Avoid May–June (40–45°C peak heat).

Can this tour be reversed — starting from Prayagraj and ending at Chitrakoot?

Yes, absolutely. We can customize the tour to start from Prayagraj (Sangam Snan on Day 1) and end at Chitrakoot (Kamadgiri Parikrama on Day 2–3 with departure from Chitrakoot Dham station). This is preferred by travelers arriving from Varanasi or eastern India. Contact us with your preferred start city and we will adjust the itinerary and logistics at no extra charge.

Are the Gupt Godavari Caves accessible for everyone?

The Gupt Godavari Caves consist of two caves. The outer cave is large and accessible to all. The inner cave involves walking through a narrow passage with ankle-to-knee-deep water for about 50 meters — this is the most spiritually significant part where the underground Godavari flows. Most healthy adults and children can manage it. Senior citizens or those with mobility issues should do the outer cave and skip the inner water passage. Carry a change of lower clothing.

Is Prayagraj worth visiting outside of Kumbh Mela?

Absolutely. The Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Hinduism year-round — Magh Mela is held every year from January to February (not just Kumbh years), and millions of pilgrims visit the Sangam for Kartik Snan, Mauni Amavasya, and regular pilgrimages throughout the year. The Allahabad Fort, Akshaya Vat, Bade Hanuman Ji, and Anand Bhawan are perennial attractions. Prayagraj outside Kumbh is far more peaceful and accessible.
