Day 1

Arrival in Lucknow — Imambara, Rumi Darwaza & Nawabi Heritage

Arrive at Lucknow (Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport / Lucknow Junction). Meet your dedicated guide and transfer to hotel for check-in. After freshen-up, begin your Lucknow heritage walk: the magnificent Bara Imambara (1784 CE) — built by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula as a famine relief project, home to the bewildering Bhulbhulaiya labyrinth and the Asfi Mosque. Visit Chhota Imambara (Palace of Lights) — adorned with thousands of crystal chandeliers and gilded calligraphy. Stroll past the iconic Rumi Darwaza (Turkish Gate) — a 60-foot triumphal arch modeled on a portal in Constantinople. Evening: explore Hazratganj, Lucknow's elegant promenade and shopping street. Dinner at a heritage restaurant — savour authentic Awadhi delicacies: Dum Biryani, Galouti Kebab, Sheermal, and Meetha Paan. Overnight in Lucknow.
Day 2

Lucknow to Ayodhya — Ram Mandir Darshan & Saryu Ghat Aarti

After breakfast, check out and drive to Ayodhya (approx. 135 km, 2.5 hrs) — the eternal birthplace of Lord Ram, one of the seven sacred Sapta Puri cities of Hinduism and a UNESCO World Heritage candidate. Check in to hotel. Afternoon: visit the grand Ram Mandir — the largest Ram temple in the world, consecrated on 22 January 2024 after 500 years of sacred struggle. The temple's 161-foot shikhara, white Rajasthani marble floors, and intricately carved pink sandstone walls are a masterpiece of Nagara architecture. Proceed to Hanumangarhi — the hilltop fort-temple of Sankat Mochan Hanuman Ji, perched 76 feet above with commanding views of Ayodhya. Evening: Saryu Aarti at Ram Ki Paidi — watch priests perform synchronized fire rituals as oil lamps drift across the holy river. Dinner and overnight in Ayodhya.
Day 3

Ayodhya Deep Darshan — Saryu Snan, Kanak Bhawan, Sita Rasoi & Guptar Ghat

Wake before sunrise for a sacred dip in the Saryu River at Ram Ki Paidi — the most auspicious act for any Ayodhya pilgrim. After a nourishing breakfast, begin a comprehensive Ayodhya temple circuit: Kanak Bhawan (the golden palace gifted to Sita by Queen Kaikeyi, housing golden idols of Ram and Sita), Sita Ki Rasoi (the original royal kitchen of Ayodhya believed to be where Sita cooked), Nageshwarnath Temple (established by Luv and Kush — the twin sons of Ram), Treta Ke Thakur at Tulsi Ghat (where Tulsidas had a divine vision of Ram), and Mani Parvat (the sacred hillock). Afternoon: Guptar Ghat — the solemn site on the Saryu where Lord Ram took Jal Samadhi at the end of his earthly avatar. Evening: Ramayana Museum for a visual journey through the epic. Overnight in Ayodhya.
Day 4

Ayodhya to Naimisharanya — Chakra Tirth, Lalita Devi Shakti Peetha & Gomati Snan

After breakfast, check out and drive to Naimisharanya (approx. 130 km, 2.5 hrs) — the sacred forest of Nimsar in Sitapur district, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in the Puranas. Here, 88,000 rishis gathered under Sage Shaunaka to hear the Puranas recited by Suta Goswami at the dawn of Kali Yuga. Check in to guesthouse. Begin darshan at Chakra Tirth Kund — the most sacred spot where Lord Brahma's Sudarshana Chakra landed, marking the boundary of this divine forest. Visit the powerful Lalita Devi Temple — one of the 108 Shakti Peethas, revered as a seat of supreme divine feminine energy. Take a purifying dip in the holy Gomati River. Attend the evening puja at the main temple complex under the canopy of ancient trees. Dinner and overnight at Naimisharanya.
Day 5

Naimisharanya Full Darshan → Drive to Prayagraj — Triveni Sangam Boat Ride

Rise early for a Gomati Snan (holy bath) at Chakra Tirth at sunrise. After breakfast, complete the full Naimisharanya pilgrimage: Vyasa Gaddi (the sacred seat where Maharishi Vedavyasa divided the four Vedas and authored the 18 Puranas and Mahabharata), Dadhichi Kund (the pond where the great rishi Dadhichi meditated and sacrificed his bones to forge Indra's Vajra weapon to slay Vritra), Soot Gaddi, Hanuman Garhi Naimisharanya, and the five Pandava temples. Check out post-lunch and drive to Prayagraj (approx. 220 km, 4 hrs) — the Prayagraj (Allahabad), the Tirtha-raja or king of all pilgrimage sites. Check in to hotel. Evening: take a peaceful sunset boat ride at Triveni Sangam where Ganga meets Yamuna and the invisible Saraswati flows beneath — watch the sacred waters merge in shades of gold. Overnight in Prayagraj.
Day 6

Prayagraj — Sangam Snan, Allahabad Fort, Anand Bhawan & Ganga Aarti

Wake before dawn for Sangam Snan — bathing at the Triveni Confluence at sunrise is believed to wash away the accumulated sins of countless lifetimes. After the holy dip, visit the Allahabad Fort (1583 CE, built by Emperor Akbar) — home to the miraculous Akshaya Vat, the immortal banyan tree revered since the time of Yudhishthira and mentioned in the Mahabharata, the Saraswati Koop, and the underground Patalpuri Temple. Visit Bade Hanuman Ji — the famous reclining Hanuman idol buried up to its chest during monsoon floods every year, yet always resurfaces. Afternoon: Anand Bhawan — the ancestral home of the Nehru-Gandhi family, now a national museum showcasing India's independence movement. Chandrashekhar Azad Park. Evening: Ganga Aarti at Sangam ghat. Overnight in Prayagraj.
Day 7

Prayagraj to Chitrakoot — Kamadgiri Parikrama & Ram Ghat Mandakini Aarti

After breakfast, check out and drive to Chitrakoot (approx. 130 km, 3 hrs) — the sacrosanct Vindhya hill where Valmiki's Ramayana places Ram, Sita, and Lakshman for 11.5 of their 14 years of exile. This is the land where sage Atri and the revered Anusuiya blessed Sita, and where the great Tulsidas composed portions of the Ramcharitmanas. Check in to hotel. Afternoon: perform the Kamadgiri Parikrama — a 5 km barefoot circumambulation of the Kamadgiri hill, considered to be Lord Ram himself in the form of a sacred mountain, believed to fulfill all sincere wishes of pilgrims. Evening: Ram Ghat on the serene Mandakini River — the same river Sita bathed in daily. Attend the gentle aarti as flickering diyas drift downstream in the cool evening air. Overnight in Chitrakoot.
Day 8

Chitrakoot Deep Darshan → Drive to Varanasi — Kashi Vishwanath Evening Darshan

Early morning Mandakini Snan at Ram Ghat. After breakfast, complete the deeper Chitrakoot circuit: Gupt Godavari Caves (the twin caves where Lord Ram held his royal durbar — the subterranean Godavari River flows through the inner cave), Janaki Kund (the serene ghat on Mandakini where Sita bathed daily), Hanuman Dhara (a miraculous hillside spring believed to have appeared when Hanuman asked for something cool after burning Lanka — still flowing after millennia), Sati Anusuiya Ashram, and Bharat Milap Temple (commemorating the deeply moving reunion of Bharat and Ram in the forest). Post-lunch check out and drive to Varanasi (approx. 280 km, 5 hrs). Arrive by evening. Check in to hotel. Proceed for darshan at the legendary Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga — one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas and the holiest Shiva shrine in the world. Overnight in Varanasi.
Day 9

Varanasi — Sunrise Boat Ride, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor & Grand Ganga Aarti

Pre-dawn: board a wooden rowing boat on the Ganges for Varanasi's most celebrated experience — the sunrise over the ghats, one of the most spiritually charged and visually stunning spectacles on earth. Watch 84 ghats awaken as priests perform morning rituals, devotees chant hymns, yogis meditate at the water's edge, and the eternal flames of Manikarnika Ghat burn as they have for 3,500 years. After a traditional breakfast, explore the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor (inaugurated by PM Modi in 2021) — the grand redeveloped precinct around the Jyotirlinga with Annapurna Devi Temple, Avimukteshwar, and the vibrant Vishwanath Lane. Afternoon: Durga Kund Temple, Tulsi Manas Mandir (built at the very spot where Tulsidas wrote the Ramcharitmanas in Awadhi), Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple. Evening: witness the spectacular Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat — 7 priests wielding 21 multi-tiered fire wands in a grand synchronized ritual that draws thousands of spectators every night. Overnight in Varanasi.
Day 10

Sarnath — Buddha's First Sermon Site → Drive to Gaya — Vishnupad Evening Darshan

After breakfast, drive to Sarnath (10 km, 30 mins) — the Isipatana Deer Park where Prince Siddhartha, having attained Enlightenment at Bodhgaya, delivered his first sermon (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta) to his five disciples, setting the Wheel of Dharma in motion. Visit the imposing Dhamek Stupa (5th century CE, built by Emperor Ashoka to mark the exact spot of the first sermon), Chaukhandi Stupa, Mulagandha Kuti Vihara (the Buddha's first residence at Sarnath), and the Sarnath Museum — home to the exquisite Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India. Return to Varanasi for final visits to Bharat Mata Mandir and Mrityunjay Mahadev Temple. Post-lunch check out and drive to Gaya (approx. 250 km, 5 hrs). Arrive evening. Check in to hotel. Proceed for darshan at Vishnupad Temple — the sacred footprint of Lord Vishnu embedded in solid rock on the banks of the Falgu River. Overnight in Gaya.
Day 11

Gaya Pind Daan & Bodhgaya — Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhi Tree & International Monasteries

Early morning: perform Pind Daan at Vishnupad Temple on the banks of the Falgu River — the most sacred act in Hinduism for Shraddha and ancestral liberation. Our guide will arrange a qualified Gaya Panda (hereditary priest) for the ritual. Scriptures state that Pind Daan performed here liberates the souls of ancestors for seven generations. After the ritual, drive to Bodhgaya (17 km, 30 mins) — the most sacred site in Buddhism, where Siddhartha Gautama attained Enlightenment under the Pipal tree in 528 BCE. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Mahabodhi Temple Complex — built by Emperor Ashoka in 3rd century BCE, reconstructed in 6th century CE, surrounding the sacred Bodhi Tree. Circumambulate the Bodhi Tree (a direct descendant of the original), sit in meditation on the Vajrasana (Diamond Throne), and visit the Animesh Lochan Chaitya. Explore the stunning international Buddhist monasteries — Japanese Daijokyo, Tibetan Tergar Monastery, Royal Thai Monastery, Bhutanese Temple, and Chinese Buddhist Temple. Return to Gaya for dinner and overnight.
Day 12

Rajgir & Nalanda — Ancient University, World Peace Stupa & Departure from Gaya

After breakfast, drive to Rajgir (approx. 80 km, 1.5 hrs) — one of India's most ancient cities, erstwhile capital of the Magadha empire and a major pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. Ride the ropeway to Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) atop Ratnagiri Hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Rajgir valley. Visit Venuvana Vihara (the bamboo grove monastery gifted to the Buddha by King Bimbisara — the first Buddhist monastery), Griddhakuta Hill (Vulture's Peak where the Buddha delivered the Prajnaparamita Sutra and where Mahavira also preached), and the ancient Rajgir hot springs (Brahmakund) with their medicinal sulphur water. Proceed to Nalanda (12 km) — the greatest university the ancient world ever produced, founded in 427 CE, which at its peak housed 10,000 students and 2,000 professors from across Asia. Explore the UNESCO-listed Nalanda Archaeological Ruins — the vast brick remains of the 14-temple, 9-monastery campus. Visit the Nalanda Museum. Return to Gaya for a final lunch. Transfer to Gaya Junction / Gaya Airport for your onward journey. Tour concludes with sacred blessings from all 7 holy destinations.

Frequently Asked Questions — 11 Nights 12 Days Ayodhya Naimisharanya Lucknow Prayagraj Chitrakoot Varanasi Gaya Tour Package

Why does this tour start from Lucknow instead of Ayodhya?

Lucknow (Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport) is the major air connectivity hub for this entire region, with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Dubai. Ayodhya's Maharishi Valmiki International Airport has limited connectivity. Starting from Lucknow also allows guests to enjoy the Nawabi heritage of the city — the Imambaras, Rumi Darwaza, and Awadhi cuisine — making for a richer cultural introduction before the pilgrimage begins.

What is the best time to do this 11N12D grand pilgrimage circuit?

October to March is ideal — pleasant weather across all 7 destinations (8–25°C), major festivals including Deepotsav in Ayodhya (November), Kartik Purnima Snan at Prayagraj and Varanasi, and the winter pilgrimage season at Gaya. During Pitru Paksha (September–October), Gaya is especially auspicious for Pind Daan but accommodation books out fast — reserve 3–4 months ahead. Avoid May–July (extreme heat 42–46°C across UP and Bihar).

How is this 12-day tour different from the 11-day version?

The 12-day tour adds 1 night in Lucknow at the beginning, giving you a full day to explore the Nawabi heritage of Lucknow — the Bara Imambara, Chhota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, and iconic Awadhi cuisine. Lucknow serves as the tour's natural gateway (as it has the region's major international airport) while adding significant cultural and architectural value to the itinerary. The sacred pilgrimage circuit from Ayodhya to Gaya remains the same as the 10N11D version.

Can we do Pind Daan at Gaya if we don't know our gotra?

Yes. If you do not know your gotra, the Gaya Panda can perform the ritual using a universal gotra such as Kashyap Gotra. However, if possible, try to find out the gotra (ancestral lineage) of the deceased before the tour by asking elders in the family. Also carry the full name and father's name of the ancestor for whom Pind Daan is to be performed. Our guide will help coordinate the ritual and brief you on the procedure.

Is Naimisharanya a comfortable overnight stop?

Naimisharanya (Nimsar) is a small pilgrimage town with simple dharamshalas and basic guesthouses — it is not a leisure hotel destination. However, for devoted pilgrims, the simplicity reflects the sacred nature of the place. We arrange the best available clean and comfortable guesthouse. For guests who prefer hotel-level amenities, we offer the option of staying 1 night in Lucknow (returning to Naimisharanya for daytime darshan), which allows you to use 4-star hotel facilities while still covering the pilgrimage.

What is the significance of Nalanda in this tour?

Nalanda (founded 427 CE) was the world's greatest residential university, with a library called Dharmaganj holding 9 million manuscripts spread across 9 floors. At its peak, 10,000 students from China, Korea, Japan, Tibet, Mongolia, and Sri Lanka studied subjects from Buddhism and Vedanta to astronomy, medicine, and mathematics. Destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1193 CE, its ruins — now a UNESCO World Heritage Site — remain extraordinarily preserved and deeply moving. Walking through 1,500-year-old classrooms and monastery cells is one of the most humbling experiences in India.

Can this tour be customized for a group of 15+ pilgrims?

Absolutely. We regularly operate this circuit for groups of 20–50 pilgrims with dedicated Tempo Travellers or buses, senior-friendly hotels with ground-floor rooms and lifts, and 2 guides for large groups. We can also arrange group Pind Daan at Gaya with a dedicated pandit, VIP Ganga Aarti seating at Varanasi, and group darshan bookings at Ram Mandir Ayodhya. Contact us with your group size, preferred dates, and budget for a customized group quotation.
