Ram Navami (Chaitra Shukla Navami, March/April) is the most auspicious and festive time — this is also Swaminarayan Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Swaminarayan, celebrated with immense devotion at the Janmabhoomi Temple. Hundreds of thousands of devotees from India and abroad attend. Other auspicious times: Kartik Purnima (November), Makarsankranti (January 14), and Diwali. For a peaceful, intimate pilgrimage, visit during weekdays in October–March. Summer (April–June) can be very hot (38–44°C). The Nilkanth Yatra is the legendary 7-year foot pilgrimage undertaken by Ghanshyam Maharaj (Lord Swaminarayan) at age 11, starting from Chhapiya on Ashadhi Ekadashi 1792 CE. Walking alone — or occasionally with pilgrims — he traversed the entire Indian subcontinent barefoot: from Uttar Pradesh through Bengal, Jagannath Puri, South India, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, the Himalayas, and finally Gujarat. He walked over 8,000 km, practiced intense yoga and meditation, studied under great saints, and was known as Nilkanth Varni. At Loj village in Gujarat he met Ramanand Swami, who initiated him. This incredible yatra transformed a Brahmin youth from a small UP village into the founder of one of India's largest spiritual traditions. The Janmabhoomi at Chhapiya marks the starting point of this extraordinary spiritual journey.

The Swaminarayan Janmabhoomi Temple at Chhapiya is open to all visitors regardless of faith, caste, or nationality. Visitors of all traditions — Hindu, non-Hindu, and international tourists — are warmly welcomed. The temple administration requests modest dress (covering shoulders and knees), removal of footwear at the entrance, and respectful conduct inside the complex. Photography is generally permitted in the outer areas but may be restricted in the Janma Sthan inner sanctum — your guide will advise on-site. No donations are obligatory, though the donation box near the Janma Sthan is present for those who wish to contribute.

Yes — Chhapiya and Ayodhya are only 100 km apart (approx. 2 hours by road), making a combined pilgrimage extremely popular. The most natural combination is: Day 1 arrive Lucknow/Ayodhya → Ayodhya darshan → Day 2 drive to Chhapiya → Swaminarayan Janmabhoomi → overnight → Day 3 departure from Gonda or return to Lucknow. We offer a 2N3D Chhapiya + Ayodhya package. Chhapiya can also be added as a half-day stop on any tour routing from Lucknow to Ayodhya or vice versa.

Chhapiya is a small pilgrimage town and accommodation is primarily pilgrim-standard — clean dharamshalas (guesthouses) and ashram rest houses, most affiliated with the Swaminarayan temple trusts. All meals are strictly satvik (pure vegetarian, no onion, no garlic). The facilities are simple but clean and suitable for one or two nights. Guests requiring greater comfort may prefer to stay in Gonda town (35 km, approx. 45 min) or Ayodhya (100 km, 2 hrs), where more hotel options exist.
